Wellbeing and support

Join #TeamSK to be part of a team that truly cares about your wellbeing.

At SK, our approach to wellbeing is employee-led. We regularly ask, listen and build our wellbeing programme based on what our people want.

Our wellbeing encompasses everything from working flexibly to initiating ways of bringing our people together.

Here are some of the ways we support colleagues' wellbeing.

Our Networks

Our Wellbeing Networks are a great way to bring people together from across the Council whilst getting support on topics that are important to them.

We’re continually listening to our staff about what they would like to see next and as such, we are in the process of setting up our Youth Network for the development and social wellbeing of colleagues under 30.

Our Menopause Café meet regularly for support and discussion. As one employee said in our wellbeing pulse survey in November 2022;

“I’m part of the Menopause group and hearing other people’s stories has been really powerful. It encourages others to open up and get support on issues they may be experiencing.”

We also have an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Group who play a vital role in ensuring an inclusive and equitable workplace. And our Working Parents’ Forum involved a partnering up with a local organisation to offer a programme of support videos on many aspects of being a working parent.

Employee Assistance Programme

Our Employee Assistance Programme offers colleagues access to counselling, webinars, information and advice on a wide range of issues. This is funded by the Council and provided by an external, independent organisation

Mental Health First Aiders

We have 24 Mental Health First Aiders who are trained with the knowledge and confidence to support colleagues. They are a point of contact and their interactions range from having initial conversations to supporting colleagues to get appropriate help.

Wellbeing Fair

Lots of organisations that support South Kesteven’s wellbeing came together for our wellbeing fair. Staff were encouraged to attend the event which included financial wellbeing information including budget friendly meal tasters and recipes. Other organisations shared information in support of physical and mental wellbeing including local walks, an exercise bike competition and freebies!

Wellbeing Sessions

We offer a range of sessions for our people to take time out and focus on their wellbeing. This has included wellbeing walks, relaxation sessions and gong baths to try something different

Team Challenges & Fundraisers

Over 100 colleagues got involved in our two recent steps challenges with an incredible amount of steps being achieved.

We also love a fundraiser at SKDC! Recently, we have raised money for Breast Cancer, Men’s Mental Health and the Stroke Association.
