Council needs your views on changes to parking regulations

The public is being asked to give their views on proposals to ensure motorists stick to the rules when they park in areas operated by South Kesteven District Council.

Changes are being put forward to

  • fine drivers who park in areas for buses at Grantham, Stamford and Bourne bus stations
  • ensure electric vehicle charging bays are used correctly
  • introduce a waiting limit for customers using Stamford Leisure Centre to enable more users to park

The consultation is under way and the public has until 9am on 21 August to respond.

Council Leader Cllr Richard Cleaver said: "The SKDC Cabinet has already voted in support of these proposals, but we are keen to hear what the people who use our parking areas think about the plans.

"Please take time to look through the Consultation section of the SKDC website and let us know if there are any proposals you would like us to consider.

"There are no changes to charges included in the proposals, and some of the changes are an update of procedures to bring SKDC's regulations in line with revised national legislation."

The changes would allow fines to be given to unauthorised drivers who park in areas designated for buses at Grantham, Stamford and Bourne bus stations.

Also proposed is a clampdown on the use of the electric charging bays at at SKDC's car parks at Welham Street, Grantham; North Street, Stamford; Burghley Street, Bourne and Douglas Road, Market Deeping.

A new four-hour maximum parking period at Stamford Leisure Centre would be introduced to ensure spaces are available for centre users. All-day parking by non-leisure centre users currently cuts availability for genuine visitors.

Anyone wishing to submit an objection or comment relating to the proposed Order must specify the grounds and send it in writing to arrive no later than 9am on 21 August 2023 to Corporate Property, South Kesteven District Council, The Picture House, St Catherine's Road, Grantham, NG31 6TT or by e-mail to CorporateProperty@southkesteven.gov.uk

Full details of the proposals are available online at www.southkesteven.gov.uk/consultations and between 9am and 1pm, Monday to Friday at South Kesteven District Council, Customer Services, The Guildhall Arts Centre, St Peter's Hill, Grantham, NG31 6PZ.
