Private water supplies

A private water supply is any supply which is not provided by a mains water company like Anglian Water. About 1% of the population of England and Wales have private water supplies to their homes.

These are mainly in the more remote parts of the country and may serve one or more properties.

The source of the supply may come from:

  • wells

  • boreholes

  • springs

  • streams

  • rivers

  • lakes or ponds

  • rain water from the roof

In this section you will get further information on regulations and the services we provide to ensure that your private water supplies are wholesome, safe to drink and of quality standards similar to those of mains water supplies.
