Discretionary Housing Payments
Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP) allows us to make additional payments to people who receive Housing Benefit / Universal Credit (with Housing Element) and need further help with rent.
DHP can also be considered to help towards:
- Rent deposits
- Rent in advance
- Moving costs
- A shortfall between housing benefit and rent or housing costs included in Universal Credit and rent
These are not intended to be long term ongoing payments. They are awarded on a short-term basis while you take action to improve your circumstances. For more details, and to apply, more information can be found here: Extra support - discretionary housing payments
Housing Advice
If someone is worried about how to pay housing costs they should contact their landlord or mortgage lender as soon as possible. Our housing advice teams can offer impartial advice to tenants and landlords and help people at risk of homelessness.
