What should I do if I disagree with a Housing Benefit decision?

You must contact us within one month if you disagree with a Housing Benefit decision.

In special circumstances longer may be allowed but you should write and tell us what these special circumstances are. Even if you have special circumstances you must contact us within 13 months.

If you ask us to look at your decision again and we decide that it is correct, you can then appeal within one month of the letter confirming that the decision stands if you still disagree.

If you have already appealed, then this will be sent to the Tribunals Service, which is an independent tribunal.

What should I do if I disagree with a Council Tax Support decision?

You must ask us to look at our decision again within two months before you can appeal directly to an independent tribunal.

If you ask us to look at our decision again and we decide that it is correct, you must then appeal directly to the Valuation Tribunal Service if you still disagree.

You can appeal directly to the Valuation Tribunal Service if we have not replied to your dispute within two months.
