The purpose of this consultation is to find out how much those living and working in South Kesteven know about the Council’s current Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) in Grantham, and to encourage them to comment on SKDC’s Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP).
What is an Air Quality Management Area?
An Air Quality Management Area is an area defined by the local authority where measured air pollution is above national air quality objectives.
A local authority is legally required to declare an Air Quality Management Area where targets are breached.
Does South Kesteven have any Air Quality Management Areas and if it does, where are they?
Yes, South Kesteven has one Air Quality Management Area.
Created in 2013, it covers an area in Grantham Town Centre, which runs from Manthorpe Road to London Road, which includes the High Street and Wharf Road and is illustrated on the map below:
What is an Air Quality Action Plan?
An Air Quality Action Plan provides the mechanism by which a local authority, in collaboration with national agencies and other partners, states its intentions for working towards the air quality objectives through the powers it has available.
