Bike Night was declared a real triumph following its return to Grantham last night (Wednesday).
The turbo-charged event was back by popular demand with an estimated 800 motorbikes and 2,000 people in attendance.
The free event in the Market Place was organised by South Kesteven District Council and supported by Chris ‘The Stalker’ Walker, British Superbike and MotoGP racer.
It was so popular bikes spilled over into the Conduit Lane and B&M car parks and lined Westgate.
Bike club members from as far away as Boston and Spilsby cruised into town to show off their machines and meet fellow riders - everything from superbikes to mopeds and trikes were represented.
SKDC Deputy Leader Cllr Paul Stokes, Cabinet member for Leisure and Culture, said: “I haven’t seen Grantham town centre so busy for a long time.
“What a triumph, to coin a phrase. It was incredible to see so many bikes and so many people and hear the roar of so many engines.
“To say it was impressive would be a huge understatement.
“Thanks should go to all SKDC staff involved in the organisation and stewarding of this event. It was great to see Everest Inn recognising their efforts with refreshments through the evening.”
Chris Walker had advertised the event on trips to Cadwell Park and other venues and attended with Ducati and Kawasaki bikes from his business on Harlaxton Road, Grantham.
He said: “It’s been a great turnout. The town has embraced it. This event couldn’t have been any better.
“The motorcycle community loves a ride out. If there is a meet-up advertised and you throw in a bit of music and a bite to eat, and they’ll be there.
“They love showing off their machines to their friends and enthusiasts.”
Yamaha XVS 650 trike rider Jim Morton, of Grantham, said: “It’s a great turnout. It’s been great for the town.”
Sue Selvester and Donald Gilchrist rode over from Radcliffe-on-Trent on a Moto Guzzi and Ducati Scrambler.
Sue said: “We saw it advertised and just knew we had to come.”
In addition to the bikes, there was live music from local bands Ashen and 23 Reasons.
The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance was represented as were Lincolnshire Police Cadets.
The potential for increased footfall prompted town centre businesses including Kitchen & Coffee, Westgate Bakery, Everest Inn, Brown’s Cocktail Bar and Tap & Tonic, to either stay open late or open specially.
