A housing scheme is set to provide much-needed affordable homes in Market Deeping.
It is estimated that construction of the approved scheme will take 43 weeks, beginning on site in November with a completion date of August next year.
The development at Wellington Way comprises two one-bed apartments, four two-bed apartments and five two-bed houses.
The new properties will include air source heat pumps, solar PV and infrastructure for electric vehicles.
They will be built on a grassed area between industrial units and existing flats.
The scheme will also see trees planted for biodiversity gains and pathways added that will link to Peacock Square.
The homes will be available to people on South Kesteven District Council’s Housing Register and will be added to the choice-based lettings system nearer to completion.
SKDC submitted the planning application for the land, which was approved.
The next step is to award the contract to build the apartments, which is scheduled to happen at SKDC’s Cabinet meeting on 9th September.
SKDC’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Virginia Moran said: “This scheme will deliver much-needed affordable housing to Market Deeping and is very welcome.
“I look forward to seeing spades in the ground before the year is out.”
The council loses around 40 properties per year through the Right to Buy scheme so needs to build on its own land where appropriate. It also seeks to secure affordable housing on larger developments to meet the needs of residents.
The development in Market Deeping will replace over a quarter of the houses lost through Right to Buy in one year and is one of the larger schemes in the pipeline for council-owned land.
The council worked with residents to address concerns over the loss of the green space and reduced the number of properties from 14 as a result. This will allow some of the green space to remain and resident parking spaces to be retained.
