Feedback sought on plans to locate additional housing in South Kesteven

Residents have the chance to help shape the future of South Kesteven in an eight-week consultation that's open for comments right now.

It will provide a new opportunity for residents and stakeholders, such as local businesses, developers, landowners and interest groups, to have their say on the emerging Local Plan.

A Local Plan sets out which areas should be set aside for housing and industry and includes policies which seek to protect the natural and historic environment.

The new consultation is required after last year’s General Election and the new Government’s decision to increase the number of new homes required to be built in South Kesteven.

The consultation asks for comments on the changes made to the proposed housing and mixed-use site allocations shown in the Draft Local Plan published in February 2024, as well as new additional proposed sites to meet the increased housing land supply need.

The proposed site allocations are part of the ongoing process of creating a new Local Plan to guide development in the district up to 2043.

The Cabinet Member for Planning, Cllr Phil Dilks, said: "We were previously at an advanced stage of reviewing our current local plan to identify allocations for additional housing requirement. However, the new Government was elected on a commitment to see 1.5m new homes built in the next five years in a bid to solve the housing crisis.

"Their published national policy framework substantially increased our annual housing need from 701 to 886 dwellings per year, an uplift of 185 a year. This means the Local Plan's minimum housing need is now 17,720 up to 2043, which meant we had to find extra sites for an additional 3,000 more homes over that period.

"It's been a real challenge and continues to be so. We now need the public's thoughts on what we're putting forward."

Public engagement events are being held during the consultation period, with details attached below.
