A charity offering vital counselling services has been presented with a cheque for £2,060 by former SKDC chairman, Cllr Paul Fellows.
The money for Don’t Lose Hope, based in Bourne, came from collections, events and activities during his year in office.
Don’t Lose Hope offers counselling services priced according to income – making it accessible to all.
Charity founder Nicola Brister said the need for affordable counselling was as great as ever and now included young people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mrs Brister said: “We offer free or affordable professional counselling services for all members of the community aged four and upwards. We see children free of charge or at low cost from a 50-mile radius, because we’re the only provider of this kind they can access.
“We are particularly seeing the lasting impact from Covid being felt among young people, some of whom show behaviours around germs and eating patterns.”
Cllr Fellows said: “Counselling is so expensive and so necessary: what they do at Don’t Lose Hope provides a template for these vital services, for people of all ages. That’s why it was so important to remember them as my Chairman’s Charity.”
Donations can be made via the website https://dontlosehope.co.uk/donate where details of membership packages are also available.
The charity’s gift shop and café at 3 South Street, Bourne, can also be accessed online: https://dontlosehopegiftshop.bigcartel.com
Both are open Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm, and Saturday, 10am-4pm, and are run by volunteers. They provide a space where anyone can drop in and find someone to talk to, get involved in activities, make friends or just have a slice of cake and a cup of tea.
