Interested in becoming a councillor?

Potential election candidates for a new council to cover Grantham are being invited to a briefing event to find out more about standing as a candidate and the election process.

The sessions are open to everyone interested in, or thinking about standing as a candidate at, the elections to Grantham Parish Council.

South Kesteven District Council election officers will explain the nomination process to stand as a candidate, the election timetable, voting, Voter ID, campaigning and count arrangements.

The session, at 6pm on Wednesday 6th March, will also provide the opportunity to ask questions.

Returning Officer Karen Bradford, who is also SKDC Chief Executive, said: “At the Grantham parish election on Thursday 2nd May, 22 new Grantham parish councillors will be elected: four for St Vincent's ward and three councillors for each of the remaining wards.

“A councillor can make a real difference to their local community, by representing the views of local people to ensure the community gets the right services, supporting individual residents with an issue, or helping shape the community by driving forward new ideas.

“We have arranged this information session for prospective candidates who may wish to put themselves forward to help decide local issues.

“The new council is being called a Parish Council for the election, although it is likely the new body would choose to call itself a Town Council once it becomes active.”

Those interested in attending the briefing in Council Chamber, SKDC, South Kesteven House, St Peter's Hill, Grantham, NG31 6PY, can register in advance by emailing the elections team at elections@southkesteven.gov.uk
