Working for the Council: Armed Forces Veterans and Reservists

How we support and value our veteran employees

The Council is proud to be an employer of choice for veterans and reservists. We recognise the skills, experience and dedication that both bring to our organisation and we are therefore committed to supporting veterans in their transition to civilian life and career development, as well as supporting reservists by recognising the importance of their training commitments.

As part of our commitment, we have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, which is a promise to ensure that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly and with respect. We have also achieved the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award, which demonstrates our support for the armed forces community.

One of the ways we support veterans is by offering guaranteed interviews to all applicants who have served in the armed forces and meet the essential criteria for the role they are applying for.

To apply for a guaranteed interview, indicate that you are a veteran in your application form when prompted. You also need to demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria for the role, which are listed in the job description and person specification. You can use examples from your military service or any other relevant experience you have.

We value the contribution of our veteran employees and reservists, and support them throughout their career with us. We offer flexible working arrangements, mentoring, training and development opportunities, and access to a range of wellbeing and support services.

If you are a Veteran or Reservist and you are interested in working for the Council, we encourage you to explore our current vacancies and apply online. You can also contact our Recruitment Team at recruitment@southkesteven.gov.uk for more information and advice.
