Grantham Hall Book

An update of the historic Grantham Hall Book will move recorded Newton history on a stage through further research of his apothecary landlord William Clarke.

Grantham Hall Book

The Lincolnshire archives hold records of his public life up to 1639 (when the Royalists were ousted from the County). A project involving U3A and the Lincolnshire Archives had picked up the challenge of transcribing records further and will deliver a new publication and presentation feeding into the digital county records Lincs to the Past and the internationally significant Newton Project.

The Hall Book recorded the discussions and decisions of Grantham's Corporation or town council whilst Newton was at school in the town. It also demonstrates the personality of William Clarke, a 'big-wig' in Lincolnshire and Alderman of Grantham.
