Designation of a neighbourhood area

The Neighbourhood Planning Regulations require a 'neighbourhood area' to be designated before a neighbourhood plan can be progressed.

Applications to designate a neighbourhood area should be made to:

Planning Policy
South Kesteven District Council
St Peter's Hill
Grantham
NG31 6PZ

Applications must include:

  • a map identifying the area to be designated
  • a statement explaining why this area is considered appropriate for designation

Once received, we will publicise the application on our website and there will be a six week consultation period to enable any comments on the proposal to be made. Following consultation, applications will be considered by the council and a decision issued.

Designation of a neighbourhood forum

In areas where there is no parish or town council, then organisations can submit an application to be the neighbourhood forum for that area.

An application will also need to be made to designate the neighbourhood area (see above) but consideration of both applications can run in parallel.
