The purpose of an SHMA is to provide evidence on housing need and demand across a housing market area in terms of affordable and general housing, identify the housing requirements of specific groups and the appropriate mix of housing required.
The first SHMA was produced in 2008 and was updated in 2010. This identified that the provision of an additional 676 affordable dwellings per annum would be needed if all the affordable housing needs in the district were to be met.
