The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 requires any persons collecting or buying scrap metal in South Kesteven to have a Scrap Metal Dealer Licence issued by us.

Applicants must satisfy us that they are a legitimate trader and a suitable person to carry on a scrap metal business. Sellers of metal must carry proper identification for the dealer to retain. Applicants will also require a Waste Carrier Licence issued by the Environment Agency.
Dealer licence Required where a business operates in scrap metal at a premises. A site manager must be named for each site. The licensee will then be permitted to operate from that site as a scrap metal dealer including transporting to and from those sites from any local authority area. |

Collector's licence This authorises the licensee to operate as a mobile collector in the area of the issuing local authority, permitting them to collect scrap metal. This includes commercial as well as domestic scrap metal. If a mobile collector operates within more than one local authority's district, a licence will be required for each authority. |
