Commercial and industrial waste

Businesses are responsible for making sure their waste is disposed of safely and legally. We have a responsibility to help them do just that.

South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) does not provide a commercial waste collection service.

If a business asks us to dispose of commercial waste, there will be a charge. Alternatively, businesses can make their own arrangements with a licensed trade waste collector (search on-line for local collectors). A written description of the waste must be completed by the company and be given to you as a receipt.

Failure to dispose of waste legally and responsibly could result in fines up to £50,000, and even imprisonment.

Further information about commercial waste can be found in our duty of care booklet [282kb]

If your business transports waste as part of its work (e.g. garden landscaping), you will need to register with the Environment Agency as a waste carrier. You could be liable to a fine for carrying waste without such a licence.

Every business has a responsibility to make sure any stored waste is safe, secure and poses no risk to people or the environment. Business waste should be kept in suitable containers and protected against theft, vandalism, animals and the elements.

SKDC is not responsible for monitoring or handling industrial waste from a factory, transport network, gas, electric or water services, postal or telecommunications service, mine or agricultural premises. For more information, contact the Environment Agency.
