SKDC offers a service which aims to match tenants with landlords - and that means no fees to pay and no advertising costs.

Cllr Terl Bryant, cabinet portfolio holder for Good Housing, said: "Our Housing Solutions team acts as an introductory agent, and although we will not manage the property or the tenancy, we do provide advice and support throughout the life of the tenancy and can help resolve any issues that may occur.

"Advice and assistance is readily available on issues such as tenancy agreements and notices, the benefits system and rights and responsibilities for tenants and landlords. "

For tenants who meet our eligibility criteria SKDC can also provide a non-cash deposit called a 'paper bond' to the landlord to guarantee payment for approved costs which may arise at the end of the tenancy. This is equal to one month's rent and the bond will last for the life of the tenancy.

The council can also, if needed, provide the landlord with a month's rent in advance which would be in the form of a loan to the new tenant.
