Council Tax - Don't Cancel Your Direct Debit
If you pay your council tax by direct debit, please don't cancel your arrangement after your January payment.
That's the message from Craig Scott, Revenues and benefits service manager. "Council tax is collected over 10 months of the year from April to January, and every year hundreds of people cancel their direct debit arrangement after the January payment – the final instalment of the year," explains Craig.
"We get lots of calls from people who are concerned that we will take extra payments in February and March. There's no need to worry. We stop collection automatically after the final January payment and start again in April. There's no need to cancel your direct debit – just leave it to us. It'll save you time and the inconvenience of having to organise a new direct debit arrangement with your bank."
