Equality and Diversity
This document outlines our commitment to equality and diversity across the council and the communities we serve.
Equality and Diversity
We believe that everyone should be treated fairly and with respect, enjoying equal access to our services. No one will be treated less favourably than anyone else because of their gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, marital status or age.
Our aim is to create an environment that allows everyone to live, work and learn, free from discrimination and harassment.
We ensure that information about our services is accessible to all, where necessary producing documents in alternative formats, such as large print and audio versions, and translating them into different languages and Braille.
Our main customer access buildings are accessible to those with physical and/or sensory disabilities.
Our new Corporate Equality Scheme (2011 to 2014) includes a social profile of the South Kesteven area and outlines our commitment to equality and diversity across the council and the communities we serve. It also sets out the equality objectives we aim to deliver over the next 4 years.
The progress we made in achieving our equality aims during the year 1st April 2010 to 31st March 2011is summarised in our Annual Equalities Report. It also provides our information regarding equality in employment for the same period.

During 2011 the Council implemented a process of Service Area Equality Impact Assessments (SEIAs). These assessments are designed to establish if any group or groups of people are underrepresented in the delivery of our services and if there are any barriers to access to services. Completed assessments for customer facing services have undergone consultation externally with our Community Focus Forum and are available to the public on request.
Completed Assessments currently available to the public are:
General Services
Community Safety and Licensing
Cultural and Leisure and Amenities
Customer Services
Environmental Health
Housing Solutions
Waste Services
Council Housing
Housing Management
Improvements
Repairs
Supported Housing
If you would like a copy of any of the Equality Impact Assessments please contact Carol Drury.
