Where and when is a homelessness application taken?
Where are homelessness applications taken?
Homeless applications can be taken at any of the Council Offices in Grantham, Stamford, Bourne or Market Deeping. Please let us know if you have any difficulty in accessing our Offices and we will try to accommodate your needs.
When are homelessness applications taken?
We will take an application from you when we have reason to believe you are homeless or are likely to become homeless within 28 days. This does not mean you should not approach us until then - you should contact us as soon as possible so we can help you.
You should not leave your accommodation, unless you are not safe or the Court has ordered you to do so, without first taking advice.
What will happen if a homelessness application is taken?
If we take a homelessness application from you, we will look at your circumstances and assess whether you fit the necessary criteria. This criteria is set out by law and states clear rules on who we can directly help by providing accommodation. If you fulfil all of the criteria for us to award a 'homeless duty' to you, we will ensure you are accommodated (this could be in either social or private rented housing).
