Keeping Children Safe
This page outlines our commitment to keeping children and young people safe from harm and neglect.
The Government has defined the term 'safeguarding children' as:
'The process of protecting children from abuse or neglect, preventing impairment of their health and development, and ensuring they are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care that enables children to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully.'
The Children Act 2004 puts a duty on us to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
We have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the well-being of children and young people who participate in our services and a moral obligation to be alert to child protection issues at all times, so that they can participate in a safe and positive atmosphere free from harassment and bullying. However, we do recognise that not all children have positive experiences in their life, and we are committed in our role to promote the welfare of children and young people by encouraging good practice.

The Lincolnshire Safeguarding Children's Board was established in accordance with 'Working Together to Safeguard Children' . Its purpose is to promote good working practices that safeguard children and promote their welfare. The policy and procedures of South Kesteven are refreshed annually to reflect updates in legislation and 'Working Together to Safeguard Children'.
It is responsible for coordinating the activities of all agencies concerned with the protection of children, developing and agreeing local policies and procedures, assuring the quality of child protective services and raising awareness in the wider community of the need to safeguard children.
