Local Democracy Week
Local Democracy Week took place October 12th - 18th.
Local Democracy Week happens once a year. Its aim is to promote democracy and raise electoral participation through the use of inclusive events.
On October 13th we held a 'speed dating' event for young people from the Earlesfield Community Centre to meet and quiz our Councillors. Thirteen Councillors took part on the night and the young people had to vote for their favourite; taking into account approachability, listening skills and how they answered questions. Councillor Margery Radley (Vice-Chairman) won the vote.
The event was also recorded by 'Beat This', and the company will work with the young people to turn the recorded conversations into a rap on CD.
The event was such a resounding success, that we are hoping to run similar events again in the future.
