Choice Based Lettings

The concept of Choice Based Lettings (CBL) ensures that all new and existing social housing tenants get more choice and control over where they live. We believe this is the best way to build communities in South Kesteven.

The Homelessness Act 2002 allows housing to be advertised, and ensures that we declare our position about offering choice to our residents. The Choice Based Lettings Code of Guidance also states the Government's view that allocation policies should provide choice wherever possible.

How it works

CBL replaces the traditional way of allocating housing. In this new approach housing officers will match applicants with a priority on the waiting list with any available vacancies.

CBL allows applicants (and existing tenants) to apply for available vacancies which are advertised online or in the local newspapers.

Applicants are able to see a full range of properties and can bid (ie. apply) for any home to which they are matched. This still means that a single person would not be eligible for a three-bedroom house. The successful bidder is the one with the highest priority under the scheme.  We will also provide feedback that will help you to assess your chances of success in future applications.

We do not currently have this running in the district, but we are looking to implement this in the near future. Further information will be posted here as soon as it becomes available.
