Aladdin flies into Stamford Arts Centre in the New Year

Tickets are already flying out of the box office ahead of popular panto Aladdin landing at Stamford Arts Centre, helping your festive season last that little bit longer.

Polka Dot Pantomimes returns to the South Kesteven District Council-operated venue between January 6-15, 2023, to present the age-old magical tale for the whole family to enjoy.

Cllr Rosemary Trollope-Bellew, SKDC Cabinet Member for Culture and Visitor Economy said: "We're thrilled to be announcing yet another exciting pantomime at Stamford Arts Centre ... oh yes, we are!

"Aladdin promises to be an all-singing, all-dancing festive experience for all. Our annual pantomime is always a surefire hit with families and audiences of all ages - and the spectacular scenery, incredible costumes and dazzling special effects will keep everyone entertained again this time."

Telling the story of a loveable street urchin chasing the affections of a princess, Aladdin forms part of a packed new season programme for Stamford Arts Centre.

The iconic building, on St Mary's Street, recently enjoyed over £190,000 of investment to bring improvements to the roof, toilets, ballroom and gallery.

It opened in 1768 as Stamford Assembly Rooms, and the building's façade survives as a rare example of a Georgian playhouse. The theatre closed in 1871 but later that year reopened as the headquarters of Stamford Billiard, News and Chess Club which was how it remained until the second world war.

After the war the buildings were available for casual lettings but fell into disrepair until being transformed and opened as an Arts Centre in 1972.

With extra resources needed, it was taken over by SKDC in 1990 and in 1993 was used as a set for a BBC production of Middlemarch.

With the return of the much-loved Cellar Bar coming in September, the Arts Centre is keen to welcome audiences from far and wide back into the venue.

Panto tickets are £15 for adults and £14 for children and concessions. There are discounts available on group bookings and family tickets. To book, call the box office on 01780 763 203 or visit
