Caravan sites
Caravan sites are licensed by South Kesteven District Council. Planning permission must also be obtained from us before a site licence can be issued.
Under the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960, an occupier of land must hold a site licence in order for it to be used as a caravan site. There are some exemptions including:
- a caravan sited within the curtilage of a house and its use is incidental to the house. This means that it cannot be used separately
- a single caravan sited for not more than two consecutive nights for a maximum of 28 days in any 12 months
- sites occupied by the local authority
- sites for temporary and special purposes such as agricultural and forestry workers, building sites etc.
- up to three caravans on a site of not less than five acres for a maximum of 28 days in any 12 months
- sites occupied by exempted organisations such as the Caravan Club
- sites of up to 5 caravans certified by an exempt organisation and which are for members only.
Licences have conditions attached to them which include:
- the type of caravan e.g. touring, residential and static holiday
- the number of units and the spacing between units
- fire precautions
- water supply
- drainage
- electrical installations
- washing facilities
- toilets.
A public register which lists the site licences that have been issued can be viewed during normal office hours at Council Offices, St Peters Hill, Grantham.
