Job context and purpose
The post has been created to assist the Council with the delivery of priority projects and, in general, with the Legal Team to provide legal advice and assistance to the Officers and Members of the Council. The post holder will work within the Legal and Democratic team to manage, supervise and carry out legal transactions relating to the work of the Council and to take specific responsibility for advice and transactional work on planning, property and commercial matters for South Kesteven and, as the deputy monitoring officer, liaise with other Officers to ensure good corporate governance throughout the organisation.
The post holder will report direct to the Assistant Director, Legal and Democratic who also acts as the Monitoring Officer. The post holder will act as the deputy monitoring officer to assist the monitoring officer in day to day duties and to act as monitoring officer in the absence of the monitoring officer. The post will be responsible for leading a team of Officers consisting of 2 qualified legal executives, a trainee solicitor and a legal assistant. The post holder will work closely with Officers in the wider team of Democratic Services, Electoral Services and Member Services to assist service provision.
