Valentine's Day is among the annual events that can spark a flurry of individuals choosing to pen their affection to their loved ones with a heartfelt design.
So the council's tattoo hygiene rating scheme can help guide you to a studio with a good rating so you can have peace of mind a tattoo is being completed in hygienic surroundings.
While all studios and individuals must register in order to operate, joining the rating scheme is voluntary. To see which studios are registered and rated visit www.southkesteven.gov.uk/body
It outlines a rating for each participating studio from a top rating of four, very good, through to one, needs improvement.
SKDC's Executive Member for Environment Cllr Nick Craft said: "The overwhelming majority of businesses run very safe practices that residents can be confident of using but if tattooing is not undertaken safely there can be risks such as HIV and Hepatitis.
"So we always recommend to check the scheme and its ratings so you know what score studios have been rated after inspection."
Anyone who is suspicious of illegal home tattooing should report it to the council's Environmental Health team by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
