SKDC make taxi licence spot checks

Taxi spot checks have taken place in South Kesteven to ensure drivers are following the terms of their licences.

South Kesteven District Council's licensing team visited Bourne, the Deepings and Stamford on 21 and 22 July checking taxi licences were in order, plates were displayed correctly on licensed vehicles, drivers had SKDC badges and other legislation was being followed.

The unannounced random checks, saw some licensed drivers receive SKDC penalty points for picking up passengers not at authorised ranks in the Stamford area and for other minor offences.

All licensed vehicles passed visual checks and were noted to be clean and tidy for passengers to use. Drivers were happy to work with the licensing team from the feedback given on the two evenings.

SKDC's Executive Member for Environment Cllr Nick Craft said: "We are working with taxi drivers to ensure high standards are followed by all and there was a good response by the drivers we spoke with.

"Following protocol on where they can collect fares and displaying the correct licences at all times is very important.

"It means public and traffic safety is maintained and any resident or visitor using a taxi for a journey from these locations means they can have peace of mind they are using a South Kesteven licensed vehicle."
