Grantham's Shop Front Improvement Scheme is improving the look and feel of Grantham's historic conservation area core.

Historic England Logo

The project is a successful partnership between South Kesteven District Council and Historic England.  It is working amidst a priority list of buildings of particular historic interest in the town's Market Place, Westgate and High Street.

The total budget is £500,000 over three years, including contributions from private sector landlords

Landlords or tenants of approved premises claim up to 80% of replacement costs up to a maximum grant of £25,000.  For repairs the maximum claim is 60%, again up to a maximum of £25,000.

Eligible works are based on;

a) replacement of original features such as windows, doors, shop fronts and signage

b) repair of original features

How to apply

Applicants go through a two stage process.  First is an in-principle decision followed by a detailed full application with required planning approval and listed building consent (where appropriate).

The project is managed by a professionally qualified heritage architect who advises applicants through the whole process.

Final decisions are made by a special panel of local businesses and heritage advisers.
